Harps slump to yet another defeat

November 4, 2006

Cobh Ramblers……..3

Finn Harps………….0

Finn Harps suffered yet another defeat on Saturday night last as the Donegal side suffered a disappointing 3-0 reversal from their trip to St Coleman's Park as Dave Warren netted a hat-trick to give Cobh Ramblers maximum points.

Anthony Gorman was, for the umpteenth time this term, forced into altering his side due to the absence of Stephen O'Donnell and Shane Bradley with Gorman himself and Johnny Gallagher coming into the line-up to make his competitive debut.

O'Donnell was missing as he is undergoing intensive training with the Irish army ahead of his forthcoming trip to Liberia – although he is expected to seek permission to line out against Shamrock Rovers on Friday night – while Bradley was ruled out due to work commitments.

The absentees also forced the Harps Chief into making changes to the formation with Jonathan Minnock dropping back to centre back in the absence of Bradley with Matthew Crossan taking the left-midfield slot to allow Gorman take the central berth alongside Michael Funston.

Followers of the Ballybofey-based Club have become increasingly frustrated over the last few months as they have witnessed their side slump to a mid-table position in the First Division and indeed it looks as if though the club will finish in its lowest league position for over a decade.

Jonathan Gallagher Started For Harps

It was the home side who started Saturday's game the brighter and they opened their account early on with Warren powered though to smash home past Harps 'keeper James Gallagher with just four minutes gone on the watch.

On 26minutes Gallagher was on hand to deny Graham Cummins from doubling the advantage with a superb save after the Cobh attacker broke clear.

The southerners would have to wait until shortly after the hour mark to extend the advantage and it was former Irish underage international Warren who was again on target after latching onto a free kick by Kevin Murray with the Harps defence in no -man's land.

Just two minutes later, Harps' evening got worse as Warren's got better with the in-form striker getting on the end of Alan Carey's cross to blast home off the under side of the crossbar.

The best chance of the game for Harps fell the way of Davitt Walsh, but the young attacker fired over the crossbar after a free from Gorman was spilled by the Cobh 'keeper summing up yet another night without reward for his side.

With just two games remaining in what has been a luckless term for the Finn-siders, Harps now look forward to facing title hopefuls Shamrock Rovers at Tolka Park on Friday night next.
