John Devenney and Charlie Toland RIP

BY CHRIS McNULTY

The Finn Harps Dot Com team, and indeed all connected with Finn Harps Football Club, would like to express our sincere sympathies to the family and friends of the late John Devenney, Newton, and Charlie Toland, St Johnston on their recent sad passing.

John Devenney, from Colehill in Newtowncunningham, sadly passed away at the end of the week. John was a devout supporter of Harps over the years and was a sterling fundraiser.

John received an award for his support to the club a few years ago and his presence at Finn Park will be sorely missed. In recent times, John could be found cheering on his beloved Harps from the clubhouse at Finn Park.

He will be laid to rest after requiem mass at 3.00pm this afternoon (Saturday) in the Church of All Saints Newtowncunningham.

Sincere sympathies are also extended to the family and friends of the late Charlie Toland, Ard Baithin, St. Johnston, who passed away this morning, Saturday.

Charlie was a brother of former Harps manager and trainer Bobby Toland and father of former Harps player Maurice.

Maurice played for Harps in the early 1990s and scored two goals as Harps clinched promotion with a win over Waterford in '96 while his father, Bobby, managed Harps for a brief stint in the ‘80s.

A stalwart of the Kildrum Tigers Club in St Johnston, Charlie passed away in Letterkenny General Hospital this morning after a short illness and will be laid to rest after requiem mass at 11.00am at St Baithin's Church, St Johnston on Monday morning next.
