James served his apprenticeship at Glasgow Celtic before signing for St Patricks Athletic on his return from Scotland. James found it hard to establish himself in the Pats line up but did win a League Cup Winners Medal with them in 2003. Returned to his native Donegal at the end of the 2003 season and was delighted to sign for Finn Harps. Holder of numerous caps at under age level for Republic of Ireland. Ever present for Harps as they won the First Division Championship in 2004. Spent much of the 2005 season on loan with Dublin City. Has replaced Gavin Cullen as first choice this season.
