Workmen have been busy this week at Finn Park to ensure the new
section of terracing is ready for the visit of Derry City on Friday
7th October.
Dreadful weather the week before had hampered concreting work
but the club are quick to reassure finnharpsdotcom that the works
will all be finished for the North West derby.
The terracing work is due to be finished on Thursday,
with a new toilet block due to be delivered the same day. Tarmacing
of the area from the end of the new terrace out past the club offices
to the road is also due to be completed before Friday night.
The works also included electricity supply and
plumbing to the new toilets and to the press box which journalists
will be pleased to see will now have power sockets.
Meanwhile the shed located under the press box
is also being demolished to reduce the restrictions to view from
the new standing area, while facilities for disabled spectators
will also be included.
“We’re working hard to make sure everything
is finished and I think the Derry fans will see a huge change from
their last visit” said director Trevor Gordon, “ While
the facilities are still basic in terms of a modern stadium these
improvements mean that at least there is a stepped area to stand
as well as toilet facilities and an area dedicated for disabled
spectators on this side of the ground. The whole area will be much
tidier with no loose or uneven surfaces which make it safer and
more comfortable to watch a match.”
While Harps are hoping the visit to Ballybofey
is more comfortable for their cross border neighbours they are no
doubt hoping that this only applies off the pitch and that the legions
of Candystriped faithful ultimately leave the new terrace disappointed.
The club also thanked contractor Raymond McMonagle
for once again carrying out the works to a high standard and within
the tight timeframe.
